Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Wigan Borough Armed Forces HQ CIC is a state of the art facility for the armed forces community in Wigan. The organisation provides support to ex-service personnel, together with their families and carers, who struggle with complex needs. This support includes housing, education, employment, tackling isolation and the general health and wellbeing of more than 600 members who regularly access the facilities and interventions provided.

Since the outbreak of Covid 19, they have been working in partnership with community groups across the borough and forms part of a response hub backed by Wigan Council and the foodbank network to assist with the coordination, transportation and delivery of food supplies. Additionally, an increase in the need for mental health and general welfare support for veterans and their families has also been noted.

Wigan Borough Armed Forces HQ is acting as the lead Volunteer Community Support Hub for all members of the Armed Forces Community of which there are 22,000 in Wigan alone. They are also working closely with other partners, including Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, on safeguarding those most at risk including the homeless, those with complex needs and people at risk of domestic violence.

An award from Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund is helping Wigan Borough Armed Forces HQ to maintain support for its members as well as helping them supply and deliver food to the wider community.
