Since 2012, Forever Manchester has been a UK leader in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). Building on our experience of working in local communities we have developed a range of training tools and sessions to help organisations of any size begin to adopt an ABCD approach.

ABCD is an approach and way of working with communities that focuses on discovering and connecting the rich pool of talents and assets in a community to make positive and sustainable community change. Through our Community Building work in neighborhoods across Greater Manchester we’ve been able to trial and develop a range of tools to help discover community and organisational assets, and connect them in new and productive ways.

Building on our experience in communities we have developed a range of training tools and sessions to help organisations of any size begin to adopt an ABCD approach. In recent years we have trained housing associations, local authorities, NHS staff, third sector partners and community groups in the theory and practice of ABCD, while illuminating the sessions with real stories and examples of how ABCD has made a real impact in the communities we’ve worked in.

All our training is bespoke to what a particular partner wants to achieve and can include:

  • Introduction to ABCD principles
  • Challenging traditional needs-focused thinking and developing ways of working with communities, asset mapping and other tools
  • Community conversations
  • ABCD for community groups

We like to make our training engaging as well as educational and practical by offering a number of delivery styles including:

  • E-learning
  • Classroom-based workshops
  • Job shadowing
  • Mentoring
