Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Street Support Manchester works as a connector between the public, businesses and third sector organisations to support homeless people. Whilst the organisation forms part of a wider UK Network, their work is focused on Greater Manchester where they are a key member of Greater Manchester’s Homelessness Network.

Street Support Manchester’s specific role during the Covid-19 pandemic is to provide ongoing support to over 40 homeless charities and the ten local authorites across Greater Manchester. They are also supporting Greater Manchester’s Covid-19 Emergency Committee with connection, communication and coordination of the pandemic response.

They utilise established networks to connect homelessness organisations with those in need of support, and help anyone experiencing homelessness to access the help and support they need.

The charity operates a localised digital platform that allows people to both ‘Find help’ and ‘Give help’ in their area while providing information about which charities and support agencies are doing ‘what, where, and when’. They also coordinate a warehouse of donated goods that are distributed to organisations supporting homeless people throughout Greater Manchester.

By identifying those deemed to be at most risk, Street Support Manchester ensures they are prioritised for support, especially those rough sleeping or in shared emergency accommodation, where maintaining safe distancing can be difficult.

The have also produced a documentary series published on their Facebook page called LockdownLives, that connects Greater Manchester residents self isolating in emergency accommodation, to tell their own stories on the screen – and helps the broader public understand how this crisis affects those who don’t have their own homes.

An award from the Forever Manchester Community Support Fund is helping Street Support Manchester to continue to play a pivotal role in connecting, communicating and coordinating an effective response to support homeless charities and people across Greater Manchester.
