Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Manchester Carers Centre is a local, independent charity that offer a range of free practical and emotional support services to help make a positive difference to the lives of over 1,000 unpaid Carers in Manchester each year.

Many Carers are not aware of what support and services are available to them, and some may not even recognise themselves as Carers.

Some Carers will only provide care for a small amount of time each week, whereas for others their caring role will be constant. Due to the variable nature of this role, being a Carer can have a significant impact on other parts of a person’s life. Many Carers have to balance family life, study, or work alongside caring which can often mean having to make difficult decisions about caring and other responsibilities. This can place a huge amount of pressure on the Carer socially, financially, and mentally.

Manchester Carers Centre provide a range of support services that include; outreach & identification of unpaid Carers, a telephone helpline service, community drop-ins, training and development opportunities, practical help, social and peer support and signposting. They ensure that Carers are valued, respected, listened to and given access to vital services to help them improve their quality of life.

Throughout the cornonavirus pandemic many unpaid Carers are facing extremely challenging situations when caring for vulnerable family members, friends or neighbours. Anxiety levels for Carers are higher than ever.

In response to Covid-19, Manchester Carers Centre are developing a proactive Call a Carer service engaging with Carers who are particularly disadvantaged and isolated as a result pandemic. The service involves a friendly voice contacting known Carers to find out how they are coping as well as offering emotional support, information and advice unique to their personal situations.

A large proportion of Carers are digitally disadvantaged, with either little or no access to computers and many also struggle with IT, so Manchester Carers Centre are reaching out to these individuals to offer support on a one-to-one and personal basis as much as they can.

An award from Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund is helping Manchester Carers Centre continue to provide practical and emotional support for the many unpaid Carers who are caring from family, friends, neighbours and loved ones across Manchester during the pandemic.

Between 8th-14th June the ‘Carers Week 2020’ theme is ‘Making Carers Visible’ – something that is as important now as ever before. Manchester Carers Centre want individuals, communities and organisations to recognise and celebrate the value and contribution that Carers bring to Manchester.
