Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Firwood and District Residents Association (FADRA) in Chadderton provide the local community with access to activities, classes and groups including a Home Watch scheme, Yoga, Craft’s, weekly exercise classes, a choir, school holiday activities and a popular weekly luncheon club.

FADRA was established to organise and arrange activities for the benefit of all residents due to the Firwood Park estate having no shops, public open spaces or a community centre where residents could meet. It is for this reason that many activities take place in a local school.

As a result of Covid-19, regular activities and group meetings have been suspended, so FADRA have set up a Facebook group to provide to share support information. A team of volunteers are also providing a shopping service and maintaining contact with older residents through regular phone calls.

An award from Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund is helping a team of 14 volunteers to cover the cost of community phone calls, obtain food, prepare meals and undertake deliveries for 6 weeks.
