Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Since 2005, Emmaus Bolton has provided a home, family and work for up to 22 formerly homeless people at a time, supporting them in preparing for mainstream living. The organisation also operates a pantry helping with food for residents, runs a café, a charity department store and provides free furniture to local families.

In a typical year, up to 50 families receive furniture, 5,000 people use the low-cost café and and 400 people receive support from the pantry every week. There are 26,000 transactions in the charity department store providing low-cost items for the financially excluded, and more than 300 tonnes of furniture and household items are saved from landfill and re-used.

In response to the impact of Covid-19, Emmaus Bolton has had to close their shop in accordance with lockdown restritcions, but they continue to house and support 22 residents at their community facility who are actively volunteering to help maintain the pantry services that enable continued support for 400 local people and families.

An award from Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund is helping Emmaus Bolton with the provision of a variety of fresh, chilled and frozen foods and basic household essentials enabling their pantry to remain operational.
