Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Dancing with Dementia normally meet up once a month at The Grand Palais Dance Centre in Swinton. The group provide social dancing and entertainment so that those living with dementia, their families, friends and carers can get together to enjoy the uplifting experience that music and dance creates.

The group also have a regular slot at the “Hug in a Mug Cafe” in nearby Walkden, which allows those affected with dementia and family members to attend on selected days. Meals are provided as well as quizzes and other inclusive activities.

Due to the impact of Covid-19, their monthly dances have been suspended, but in response, Dancing with Dementia have set up phone-based and other practical support for its vulnerable members and those in self-isolated households as a way of maintaining regular contact. The ‘Hug in a Mug’ Café are also continuing to provide meals for a loyal group of Dancing with Dementia volunteers to distribute to members.

An award from the Forever Manchester Community Support Fund is helping Dancing with Dementia to support and keep in contact with 200 people living with dementia, through the provision and delivery of meals and basic essentials.
