Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Cracking Good Food was launched at Chorlton’s Big Green Festival in 2010 with the aim of getting more people in the North West to cook and eat homemade food. For the last 10 years they have been delivering cooking courses in local communities as part of a wider campaign for affordable, sustainable & healthier food for all.

They believe cooking is a vital life skill that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. They cook with community groups, parents in primary schools, local youth groups, older people, ex-offenders as well as individuals recovering from drug/alcohol issues.

In response to the impact of Covid-19, Cracking Good Food recognised that vulnerable people would urgently need wholesome cooked foods now, more than ever before. As demand for their support significantly increased, not only did they set up an emergency #CoronaVirusAppeal, asking the public for donations, money, time, food, and cooking skills to help, but they utilised existing links within communities across Manchester and established a cooked food delivery service.

All this has enabled them to provide wholesome, nutritious, cooked meals to support families in food poverty, those experiencing self-isolation and people who have lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic.

An award from Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund has helped Cracking Good Food to upscale their operation to provide hundreds of healthy meals to feed the increasing number of vulnerable people across Manchester due to the virus.
