Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.

Bolton Armed Forces Centre 4 Veterans is run by veterans who understand the problems that other veterans and their families may face when they reintegrate back into civilian life after leaving the services.

They do a multitude of things to help; whether that be signposting to other support services, housing homeless veterans, supplying free furniture from their charity shop or providing food via their foodbank. They also attend tribunals and give benefit advice, host a breakfast club, organise day trips and arrange training courses for veterans seeking to find employment.

Bolton Armed Forces Centre 4 Veterans also provide help and support for veterans in mental distress with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The centre provides a quiet environment where veterans can chill out with like-minded people, away from the stresses that life outside the forces can bring.

During the Covid-19 outbreak the demand for their services has increased, especially their foodbank. They have also seen rise of those in need of mental health support, so volunteers are now on hand 24 hours a day to provide mental health intervention when required.

They are also providing help for the veterans and their families who are isolating, through the provision and delivery of food, sourcing PPE, collecting medicines as well as providing advice on how to cope with the lockdown. They continue to take vulnerable people to medical appointments and help source financial advice for veterans who are unable to work as a result of the pandemic.

Having supported a considerable number of veterans who were homeless before the lockdown, they are now helping to get them housed, supplying basic starter packs and providing them with furniture.

An award from the Forever Manchester Community Support Fund is helping Bolton Armed Forces Centre 4 Veterans to continue to provide this tremendous level of support to veterans and their families throughout Bolton.
