We’re delighted to announce the shortlist for the ‘Captain Manchester Award’ which will be presented at Forever Manchester’s Birthday Party on Friday 9th February 2024 at at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel.

The award has been kindly sponsored by Auto Trader.

The Captain Manchester Award is given in recognition of an individual with true Mancunian spirit. This person has given their time, money, skills or resources to support communities of Greater Manchester; has gone the extra mile and embodies the spirit of Forever Manchester.

The Shortlist is:

Dave Foran

Impresario, DJ, landlord, and philanthropist are just a few of the roles Dave fulfils. As a proud Forever Manchester Ambassador he has been supporting the charity for over 15 years; raising thousands of pounds in the process, he has staged open mic nights, comedy nights, band and gig nights, quiz night events and everything in between.

Lesley Fisher

Lesley set up Dancing with Dementia in Swinton in 2014 after her sister received a dementia diagnosis. Since then the group has grown from around 20 members at the beginning, who met once a month, to 180 people meeting weekly at Swinton Palais.

With the help of friends Elaine and Jeanette, Lesley provides social opportunities for the group members such as trips to Blackpool, Skipton market & the local chippy on the precinct. These opportunities have helped to bring people in the community together, and allowed them to bond over the shared experience of living with dementia.

Through Dancing with Dementia, Lesley has created a welcoming place where family, friends and other guests can offer support and empathy with their experiences, recognising the importance of music and dance for those living with dementia, and the positive impact it can have on the wellbeing of everyone.

Sally Eason

Sally and the AO Arena have supported Forever Manchester for over 10 years. Sally is Forever Manchester’s main contact at the Arena and regularly provides us with free tickets to gigs with some of the most successful acts in the world. We use these tickets as Tombola prizes, auction prizes and gifts to community groups.

Thanks to Sally’s efforts the value of tickets she has donated over the years exceeds £60,000. Sally is also a proud Forever Manchester Ambassador and gets involved in lots of our events and fundraising opportunities.

Sam Booth

Sam is chief executive at pro-manchester and has been an integral part of its growth from a small, effective membership network to a sophisticated business development organisation. She’s also been a Forever Manchester trustee for 8 years and an Ambassador for 4 years prior to that, helping raise thousands of pounds for the charity utilising her contacts and influence, as well as taking part in many fund raising activities.

Mo Blue

Mo has dedicated her life to the wellbeing of the Ardwick and Lonsight community. Arranging community activities that range from toddlers groups, to elderly social groups. Classes to increase the skills, assets and physical wellbeing of the community, massive community socials and being there for people on a one to one basis is all part of Mo’s day, every day. Mo also took the time to bring skilled women together as Dynamic Engagement to deliver activities across their local area and Great Manchester. Mo’s dedication to the work of the Windrush Generation and every human that connects with her feels her love, passion and commitment to the community.
