Spring View Community Sports Association, based in Wigan, manage an excellent sports facility, which is utilised by many people in the community of all ages and abilities.

The group also have an over 60s club which provides a social environment that invites older people to participate in activities, and get them out of the house to meet like-minded people. They provide a venue where they can come and enjoy themselves, learn new skills, and engage in quizzes, crafts and bingo, plus other varied activities. The idea is not only to engage them in something different from their normal routine but also to stretch their minds and keep their memories in good fettle, whilst other physical activities, such as Tai Chi and dancing, will help with their bodily development and ward off arthritis.

The group went from having 29 members to 74 in the space of just two months, proving that there is an obvious need for the group. They are attracting more and more members as there is no other facility like this in the Abram area.

A volunteer for the group said: “The increase in membership assures us that we are on the right track and are providing something special for the most vulnerable and often lonely members of our community. All the people that come here are really lovely and it’s clear that they really enjoy it.”
