On Wednesday 18th October, Forever Manchester Women raised over £1,400 to support female-led community projects across Greater Manchester.

The ‘networking with a purpose’ event was sponsored by Slater and Gordon and hosted at their amazing event space, The Deck. Once again we heard from two inspirational speakers.

Nicola White MBE

Our first speaker was Nicola White MBE, an England & Great Britain International Hockey Player and Olympic gold medallist. Nicola picked up her first hockey stick at the tender age of seven and has never looked back. From representing her hometown school, Hulme Grammar in Oldham, through to county level and being picked to represent her country at under-21s, Nicola has risen the ranks to become one of Team GB’s biggest stars.

Sandhya Sharma

Our community speaker was Sandhya Sharma. Sandhya works with Safety4Sisters, an amazing grassroots Manchester-based women’s organisation that support vulnerable migrant women who cannot access safe accommodation or welfare support and who are experiencing gender-based violence. They were set up initially as a campaigning organisation in 2009 when members saw that this group of women experiencing domestic/sexual violence were routinely being denied crucial safe accommodation and welfare assistance when seeking to leave the violent situation.

Take a look at some of our highlights:

A big thank you to the ladies that attended on the evening and, with their ticket price donated to us, helped fund and support community activity across Greater Manchester. Another thank you goes to our fantastic hosts and sponsors, Slater and Gordon, our two amazing and inspiring speakers, and our volunteers.

The next Forever Manchester Women event takes place on Wednesday 17th January from 5-7pm – check the website in next weeks for details on how to sign up, or join the mailing list to be notified.
