Chesham Fold Tenants and Residents Association run youth clubs every week for children in the local area.

Structured activities provide the children with the opportunity to take part in arts and crafts, games, dance classes, drama, film and healthy eating and ‘grow your own’ sessions. The IT suite is also available where they can get help with their homework.

Split across two evenings, the Tuesday Club is for children aged between 5-8 years old and Wednesday’s Club is for 9-13 year olds. The Association also runs summer camps in the school holidays as well as organising bi-annual trips out for families.

Children from both the Tuesday and Wednesday Clubs were recently involved in creating a film documentary with Refugee Manchester to make an award-winning film about their experiences, culture and history.

After spending almost two decades living in refugee camps in Nepal, a Bhutanese group came to Greater Manchester as part of the Gateway Protection Programme, which is responsible for the settlement of the world’s most vulnerable refugees.

The ‘Sharing Stories’ film project saw a group of young Bhutanese people from across Greater Manchester join their Bury contemporaries to produce their own documentary. The footage features young people from England and Nepal talking about their backgrounds and where they live as well as interviewing each other about their favourite foods, sports and hobbies.

The youth clubs also provide the opportunity for people in the community to volunteer and gain new skills. Last year they were able to recruit three new volunteers aged 16-19 to assist with the youth club. The volunteers are offered varied training courses including English, Maths, First Aid, Safeguarding Children and Basic Food Hygiene.
