We’re buzzing to announce a new CEO. Rachel Hirst will take on the role from 12th June 2026. The change will take place at the much-loved Manchester charity following the planned retirement of Forever Manchester’s current CEO Nick Massey CBE. Rachel brings more than a decade of proven leadership to the Chief Executive role, having successfully overseen the organisation’s complex grant programs, pioneering community building initiatives, and relationships with major fundholders including Kellogg’s. She has led engagement with national partners such as the National Emergency Trust, the NHS and UKCF, played a central role in shaping long term strategy, and been instrumental in developing the ABCD Training product – a growing income product for the organisation. Nick Massey CBE, who has led the charity for 27 years, said, ‘Rachel offers deep institutional knowledge and sector expertise, allowing for a seamless transition and immediate momentum. Trusted by colleagues and stakeholders alike, she is widely respected as an approachable, decisive, and collaborative leader. Her leadership during critical moments in our past has demonstrated her ability to lead confidently through complexity and change for the future.’ Since its establishment in 1989, Forever Manchester has raised over £67M to support Grassroots charities across Greater Manchester and has ambitious growth plans for the future to help more people in the region who need a hand up. Chair of the Organisation, Rebecca Durrant, said, ‘Rachel’s track record, deep understanding of our mission and her ability to lead with both clarity and compassion make her the right person to guide us into the future. Alongside stability, Rachel brings a clear vision for future growth, driving the evolution of grant making, expanding community programs and championing staff development and wellbeing. With the full support of the board and the Senior Management Team, her appointment positions the organisation strongly for its next phase of impact and success.’
