After the success of their summer club last year, the Lancashire Hill Family Group have expanded their project even further. In collaboration with our Community Builder Lisa Kershaw and Stockport Homes, the group have lovingly created a map highlighting the assets in their local area, creating an easy way for families to find free or cheap activities throughout summer. Last year, the group fulfilled their dreams of hosting a whole summer of activities for local families. The club was a roaring success, and the group began 2025 on a high, winning two awards at the Forever Manchester Birthday Party (Connecting Communities and Community Group of the Year). When asked about the asset map, Lisa explains: – “Asset-based community development is about starting with what’s strong, not what’s wrong. Supporting the Lancashire Hill Family Group to create their summer asset map has been a brilliant example of this in action, residents leading the way, highlighting the parks, free activities, and joyful spaces that already exist in Stockport. It’s not just a map; it’s a celebration of community spirit and a tool for connection. When we build from the inside out, we create places where everyone feels they belong.” Their asset map has gone down a treat, being featured and recommended right across Stockport!
