Stockport Afternoon Flower Club are a group of older ladies and gentlemen who share a love of flowers, flower arranging and all forms of floral artistry. They meet monthly for workshops instructed by a qualified member of NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arrangers), learning and honing new skills and interests. With most of their members being over the age of 70 (and many in their 80s and 90s), social contact is often something that is missing within this age group – so the group provides the perfect meeting place for members to build friendships and have a good natter over a cup of tea and a new floral arrangement. Stockport Afternoon Flower Club are very involved in their local community, using their skills to give back to other organisations, such as providing floral displays and workshops at Willow Wood Hospice, and dressing trees at the local Church Christmas Tree Festival which helps the church to raise money. These sorts of events, along with club outings, allow members to practice their skills and ensures they feel valued in their community. By taking parting in flower arranging, group members are able to keep their minds and bodies active, whilst improving their well-being through both a social and creative outlet. It is always worth remembering that, if you support Forever Manchester, you support all this. The ability of local community groups and organisations to best help people in their community remains dependant on maintaining support for them.
