Organic Soul Food supports the homeless with hot food provision, clothing, sleeping bags and other vital items, signposting people to appropriate services and advocating on their behalf. As well as helping the homeless, they also run a local food bank providing families and individuals with weekly food hampers during periods of hardship. This is a particularly critical service when people lose their jobs as it can take more than 6 weeks before their Universal Credit and benefits allowance are processed. Working with a number of refugees and asylum seekers who otherwise struggle to make ends meet, the group is able to provide long-term food support on a weekly basis. During Covid-19, Organic Soul Food also distributed food to the vulnerable and elderly who were self-isolating and unable to leave their homes. Working in partnership with a number of local organisations, including Bury Support Network, the groups are able to share information with one another and hold regular meetings regarding food poverty and issues surrounding foodbanks. This is a particular topic of high importance in the area, as many families are in need of a helping hand. With the belief that a hot meal and a listening ear does the world of good, Organic Soul Food provide a lifeline for the most vulnerable in their community. It is always worth remembering that, if you support Forever Manchester, you support all this. The ability of local community groups and organisations to best help people in their community remains dependant on maintaining support for them.
