Kings Foundation work to reduce knife crime and gang culture around the community in Moston, Greater Manchester. Moston is amongst the 10% most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK and unfortunately there are a lot of gangs in the area that young people get involved with. Born from the desire to take action, Kings Foundation help to support those affected, and work with young people in the community to prevent them from being groomed into gang culture. They run educational workshops, including visits from Greater Manchester Police, and provide social activities with a focus on breaking down gang barriers and teaching young people the consequences and implications of knife crime and gang culture. Recently, the group has started holding football matches to help create a more peaceful and friendly environment in Moston. The result of these events and workshops has been noticeable within the local area, with group members starting to see each other as neighbours rather than rivals. By providing a toolkit for BAME teen boys and young adults (ages 11-21), they aim to empower the future generation, setting an example to lead by. They hope to unify the community and reduce knife crime in Moston and Greater Manchester as a whole, having recently began working with families across the region who share the same worries and concerns. It is always worth remembering that, if you support Forever Manchester, you support all this. The ability of local community groups and organisations to best help people in their community remains dependant on maintaining support for them.
