Special Olympics Bury is an independent branch of the national Special Olympics organisation. The Bury branch is run and managed in partnership with Jigsaw Bury, a registered charity providing sports and social opportunities for young disabled people aged 13 and above.

Together, they provide various sports-based activities and sessions, as well as exploring and developing new sporting opportunities. While the majority of Special Olympics branches are competition-oriented, the aim of the partnership with Jigsaw is to make sport more accessible. Their sessions are inclusive, catering to all abilities regardless of the challenges their members may face. Special Olympics Bury supports all of their service users, helping them to reach their sporting potential and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Delivering sports sessions four days a week, group members can participate in local, regional and national sporting competitions without having to worry that learning difficulties, physical disabilities, or sensory impairments could hold them back. They deliver a whole range of sports, including Football, Athletics, New Age Kurling, Swimming and Gym sessions, with adaptive equipment available to all members.

Special Olympics Bury provides young disabled people with an opportunity to participate in mainstream activities and engage with the wider local community. Encouraging participants to believe in themselves and their own abilities.

It is always worth remembering that, if you support Forever Manchester, you support all this.

The ability of local community groups and organisations to best help people in their community remains dependant on maintaining support for them.
