We’re delighted to announce the Healthy Communities Award shortlist which will be presented at Forever Manchester’s Birthday Party on Friday 7th February 2025 at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel. This award is given in recognition of a group delivering activities that contribute to strong, healthy communities. Don’t Walk Past Manchester Hoping to make life on the streets a little more manageable for the homeless, Don’t Walk Past host a team of voluntary outreach groups that operate five nights a week in Manchester City Centre and surrounding areas. The teams provide food, clothing and other essentials, while also offering compassionate support and a listening ear. George’s Kitchen Set up in 2021, George’s Kitchen is a volunteer group that offers free, nutritious meals to vulnerable adults in the Ridge Hill area of Stalybridge. While the focus is on offering a weekly meal, their ethos encourages important social connections. Highfly YCO Set up in 2008 by a group of friends concerned about a growing divide within their community, Highfly YCO serve as a vital resource for young people in Oldham, offering guidance, support and orchestrating an array of physical and educational initiatives. Salford Food Bank Making sure no member of their community is left hungry, Salford Food Bank put together and distribute emergency food parcels to people in crisis and help them access services to support them in overcoming food insecurity long-term. The Shoebox Fairies Aiming to tackle poverty at a local level and bring a bit of joy to those who need it most, The Shoebox Fairies run various shoebox appeals throughout the year, donating essential items to people living in difficult social and economic circumstances.
