Forever Manchester is working with UK Community Foundations to distribute funding raised by the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. This money is being distributed to community organisations responding to the needs of local communities across Greater Manchester via our Community Support Fund.
Mentell, based in Stockport, provide safe and confidential spaces for men experiencing mental or emotional discomfort to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions and the opportunity to share their concerns.
The group normally work with local pubs, businesses and libraries across Stockport to promote their work and have grown to provide support to more than 500 men since the group started in 2017.
Due to the lockdown measures, with venues closing and travel restrictions imposed, those who were mentally and emotionally distressed before the crisis were even more at risk of becoming isolated and vulnerable.
In response to Covid-19, Mentell wanted to move their existing structure and resources from a physical space to a digital platform in order to continue to help men in need. This would allow those they support to have a safe space to offload worries and fears in the comfort of their own home.
An award from Forever Manchester’s Community Support Fund has helped enable Mentell to digitally transform their services helping to support 100 men suffering from mental and emotional distress each week.
