Starting Point Community Learning Partnership focus on providing free informal learning opportunities and events to the local community.

We have recently awarded Starting Point Community Learning Partnership in Stockport for funding towards electrical equipment such as games consoles, projectors and televisions.

They act as a ‘starting point’ for people looking to learn new skills, engage in the community in which they live, explore opportunities to volunteer locally and get involved in fun activities in a safe, non-threatening environment.

The award Starting Point Community Learning Partnership received from us is for two activities: Recruit Young Digital Champions, which will give young people free space and equipment to get together and play both traditional and computer games. The second is to develop young people’s interpersonal and confidence skills, develop a CV history etc.

The project that will enable the group to engage more younger people, with the aim that they will find out more about the work that Starting point do in the community, understand and enjoy what is offered and also look to potentially volunteering to help bridge the digital divided in Stockport, including volunteering to work on intergenerational projects.

One volunteer said: “Being able to help other people helps me fill my holidays and weekends.”

A 6-year-old participant said: “I learnt to play the piano on my laptop using Play-Doh for keys. It was really good fun. I like coming here.”
