Our women’s networking event, Forever Manchester Women, returns on Wednesday 18th October at sponsors Slater and Gordon’s offices.

So far the Forever Manchester Women events have raised over £20,000 to support female-led community activity across Greater Manchester. This instalment of the event is kindly sponsored by local law firm Slater and Gordon, and will be hosted at their incredible event space in their offices in Manchester.

Nicola White MBE will be our first speaker on the evening. Nicola is an England & Great Britain international hockey player and Olympic gold medallist.

Nicola picked up her first hockey stick at the tender age of seven and has never looked back. From representing her hometown school, Hulme Grammar in Oldham, through to county level and being picked to represent her country at under-21s, Nicola has risen the ranks to become one of Team GB’s biggest stars. You can find out more about Nicola on her website.

We asked Nicola a couple of questions to get to know her a bit better ahead of October’s event.

What attracted you to Forever Manchester and FM Women?

I love that Forever Manchester provides so much varying support and opportunity to many communities across Greater Manchester. Also there are fantastic projects inspiring women and girls to feel empowered and motivated for their ambitions and to have confidence in themselves. I like being involved with people, helping to make a difference if I can, and also being from Oldham, Forever Manchester and Forever Manchester Women very much brings all this together.

What do you love about Manchester?

Manchester always feels very welcoming when I am back home. Even though I have lived near London for eight years, coming home means seeing family, friends and some retail therapy in a great city centre!

What’s one thing you’ve enjoyed the most along your journey to becoming an Olympic gold medallist?

One thing that I have thoroughly enjoyed is travelling to and competing in many countries around the world. We get to see how our sport engages with so many more nations and experience different cultures.

What’s strong and good in your local community at the moment?

Oldham is undergoing some regeneration which is fantastic for the borough. It is bringing people together to be more social and active by providing a leisure centre, cinema, cafes and activities all in the centre of town.

If you’d like to hear Nicola White MBE’s inspiring talk, head to Forever Manchester Women.

Tickets are just £20, which includes a welcome drink and canapes. All proceeds from this event will go towards supporting community activity across Greater Manchester.

Tickets can be purchased online by using the ticketing form below.
