Out in The City is a social support group based in Manchester for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities who are over 50 years of age.

The group organise weekly activities and social trips alongside hosting regular meetings for people to socialize and share their experiences in a safe, non-judgemental environment.

One attendee at the group, Eddie, had attempted suicide on three different occasions, due to his increasing mental health issues and personal experiences;

“I just felt like a complete failure in every sense of the word and couldn’t even sort my own sexual identity out. I found the pandemic very isolating, and it was starting to affect my mental health.”

“I know how important it is if you’ve got these kind of mental health problems… I’ve got to stay connected with people. Out in The City has been one of the best groups I’ve ever been to. People were so warm and welcoming, so I settled in quite well really.

“The group has been an enormous help in terms of accepting myself for who I am as a person. It has been a lifeline – there’s no two ways about it.”

It is always worth remembering that, if you support Forever Manchester, you support all this.

The ability of local community groups and organisations to best help people in their community remains dependant on maintaining support for them.
