Organisers of our Kellogg’s Breakfast Club in Stretford continued to help local residents by putting on a free BBQ every Friday during the summer holidays.
With help from our Cash4Graft grant scheme, organisers have been able to put the event on on a weekly basis, which has benefitted local residents, allowing them to eat for free and also allowing them to get to know their neighbours too.
Joked by residents as ‘Stretford’s worst kept secret’, Forever Manchester’s Mission Possible took place at last week’s BBQ. We asked people to get involved with our ‘Yarn Bombing’ campaign, which asked residents to knit and sew decorations to decorate Victoria Park in Stretford with.
The results were brilliant, with some residents knitting many inches of yarn together to create some brilliant decorations for the park, as can be seen in the photograph above, decorations were made for the bushes as well as the trees across the park. Passers-by commented on how great the park looked, which attracted around 80 people to the BBQ on the night.
Many of our Cash4Graft awardees from the Stretford area were in attendance, including Nicola from Stretford Wombles; a team that aim to clean up their local area and get rid of litter and general waste to improve their surroundings.
The BBQ has been organised by M32, a group we work closely with based in the Stretford area. The group have tonnes of great ideas to improve their area, which has seen many Cash4Graft awards awarded to them. We continue to work with groups like this, who wish to come together and change and improve their communities in their spare time.
