We have recently launched Caketober 2015 in partnership with theEword.

Caketober is a month-long celebration of all things cake. It gives communities, businesses and friends the perfect excuse to come together and bake to raise money for Forever Manchester.

Baking is a skill that a lot of people in the communities of Greater Manchester utilise to help their neighbours, be this for special occasions or just for a natter over a brew and a slice!

Marie’s Community Cafe was set up in Oldham on the BGreen estate and it utilises the community room at Barker Street Community Centre. The pop-up cafe serves the community a mix of healthy treats and guilty pleasures including delicious cakes and pies baked by Marie.

Marie opened the cafe because of her love of baking cakes and piess. The cafe benefits the community greatly as it provides a source of reasonably priced, home cooked food in the local area and also brings the community together by utilising a space which was already there but not necessarily used.

The cafe is open on Wednesdays and Fridays and opened in May this year thanks to a Cash4Graft through the community building work Forever Manchester has been doing in the Oldham area.

A small £250 grant has enabled Marie and her local community to come together, eat well and socialise.

Cash4Graft helps local people with ideas to get them off the ground to bring their community together. For more information head to our funding page.
