Q&A with FM Women Speaker Jane Kenyon
Wednesday 20th July will see the return of one of our most popular events: Forever Manchester Women.
So far the Forever Manchester Women events have raised over £8,500 to support female-led community activity across Greater Manchester.
2016’s instalments of the event will be kindly sponsored by local law firm, Slater and Gordon and the event on 20th July will be hosted at the gorgeous Manchester House in Manchester City Centre.
Jane Kenyon is the founder of Girls Out Loud, an organisation that inspires, motivates and empowers teenage girls. Attendees at July’s event will have the opportunity to hear her inspirational story, that’s taken her from a successful corporate career in marketing, to an intuitive coach, inspirational speaker, author, campaigner and female champion.
We sat with Jane and asked her a few questions about Manchester, FM Women and her role at Girls Out Loud…
What attracted you to Forever Manchester and FM Women?
I am attracted to all informal gatherings of awesome women who are making a difference in their communities and beyond, and Forever Manchester is our charity partner so we are well aware of their amazing work and philosophy.
What do you love about Manchester?
What’s not to love? Fab culture, restaurants, shopping, venues, theatres… and the people are top!
What’s one thing you’ve struggled with/has surprised you/you’ve enjoyed the most along your journey with Girls Out Loud?
Girls Out Loud is a labour of love – I knew it would be tough but I had no idea the level of resilience I would need to source funding to deliver our intervention programmes in schools. It is frustrating operating in a sector where the need gets bigger as the funds disappear. My passion is tested every day but when I see a teenage girl find her voice, harness her confidence and talk about her future with a big smile on her face all my stress melts EVERY TIME!
What’s strong and good in your community at the moment?
The women who step up to volunteer to become Big Sister mentors continue to delight and inspire me. They are successful, sassy and ready to give back, and I watch them go on the same journey as their Little Sister over our 12-month programme. I have seen promotions, partnerships, new businesses and new connections arise from their role and lost count of the number of women who tell me the programme has changed their life. It is magical!
If you’d like to hear Jane’s full and inspiring story, head to Forever Manchester Women on Wednesday 20th July 5-7pm.
