Oldham’s Got the X Factor

May 26, 2015

Lisa Brown has been working with Forever Manchester since November 2014, seconded from First Choice Homes (FCHO) to work in the Oldham area.

Lisa’s been out and about in Oldham and this is what she’s been doing…

“First Choice Homes has commissioned us to deliver a new programme in five areas of Oldham (St Mary’s, Barker Street, Coldhurst, Burnley Street and Egerton Street). The programme fits with Forever Manchester’s ethos and sees us beginning to support residents in these areas to do extraordinary things together.

“Discussions I’ve had with residents have showed that plenty of them have got tonnes of ideas on ways to change and improve their areas. After speaking with a few groups of people wanting to make a change, I helped them to fill in applications for awards from Forever Manchester.

“The lovely people of Unsworth Way have received funding from us to improve a communal garden they’ve created. The funds from Forever Manchester will pay for a water butt and a new seating area for people to sit in and enjoy their improved surroundings.

“As well as partnering with FCHO we have also teamed up with Incredible Aqua Farm to offer free healthy food and conducted questionnaires to discover people’s skills.

“I also had the added pleasure of being able to give tickets for The XFactor Live Tour generously donated to Forever Manchester by the Manchester Arena. Ten people from the estates we are working on went to the event and loved every minute of it.

“The BGreen estates have an amazing diversity of people and I can only imagine who and what else is out there for me to connect with over the coming months.”
