National Beach Week
Ian Brown famously said “Manchester’s got everything, except a beach…”
He’s not wrong – and because of this Forever Manchester often funds and supports groups who wish to take people away to the seaside for a break. These are often people who couldn’t usually afford a trip away, or people who are isolated with no one to go away with.
30th June-6th July is National Beach Week. With this, we are focussing on ‘2 Little Ducks’, a community group based in Trafford helping older people and young families to get out on trips away.
Forever Manchester funded ‘2 Little Ducks’ to take a trip to Blackpool with beneficiaries of various ages. The funding helped with the cost of coach hire and photography equipment for people to remember their trip with.
The project aims to help people of all ages in the community to come together, reducing isolation and helping families in need.
Trips like these take pressure off families in the summer when children often need entertaining the most. The summer holidays can also be the most expensive time for families who are usually already struggling financially.
The group said: “The Blackpool trip enabled us to take families who would not normally get a day out a free trip to the beach in the summer holidays. We are already being asked if we are doing a trip again this year. The group would like to say a big thank you – without awards like this we wouldn’t be able to carry on. We are all volunteers but still rely heavily on funding to carry out the projects.”
If you would like the help us to fund more groups like this one, getting families and older people out and about in the summer months DONATE TODAY to make a difference.
