Listen Up, Voters!

May 7, 2015

7th May saw the General Election across the UK, and for a lot of young people, this will be the first major election they have voted in.

We recently funded Reform Radio CIC, a digital arts platform based in Chorlton in South Manchester.

The project we funded was their politics show called ‘#BrokenBiscuits’ which is a new radio show exploring current issues young people are facing and aims to provide them with the tools to be able to share their views and respond to current changes. Bringing together the community and encourage community pride by:

  • Responding to issues directly effecting them
  • Creating a safe environment for different members of the community to come together
  • Speaking openly about social issues effecting them

The show has lots of great hot topics up for debate, which they spread across social media to enable their listeners to interact with and debate to have their views heard live on the radio.

The whole politics project will last for 12 weeks, engaging people from the age of 18-30 in political issues relevant to them.

Reform Radio CIC is a shared digital arts platform, born and bred by the young and creative of Manchester, working predominantly with 18-30 year olds who are not in employment, education or training. They deliver free, creative outreach programmes across Greater Manchester to build transferable and digital skills and support young adults into future employment. Their projects can include; music, creative writing, politics, arts, design, CV writing, interview technique, editing, events planning and much more.

As an online radio station they provide many and much needed hands on volunteering experiences within the digital sector. The station is also a fantastic way of engaging with young adults and recruiting for their outreach programmes.

Reform Radio said: “There’s a lot of talent and opinion and some revolutionary features on their way. With the amazing Jenna G on board working with the [politics] group, it’s sure to be a firecracker. The first meeting was an exciting start to what is sure to be an incredible show.”
