On Thursday 19th April (5pm-8pm) at the Midland Hotel, Forever Manchester is hosting “Greater Manchester Women: Celebrate the Last Century and Unite for the Next” with special guest speaker Dr. Helen Pankhurst. ALL TICKETS HAVE SOLD OUT.

The event, kindly sponsored by McAlister Family Law, will discuss the important role that women have played in shaping Greater Manchester’s past and their role in its future.

All the proceeds from the event will go to support female-led grassroots community projects across Greater Manchester. Over the last 3 years of hosting our quarterly Forever Manchester Women Events we have raised £30,000 to support such projects.

About the event

On arrival, guests will be treated to a welcome drink and live performance for the talented String Infusion, a group of world class female string musicians who recently captivated and entertained the 500 strong audience at the Forever Manchester Birthday party on 9th February.

Our venue sponsor, The Midland Hotel, will also serve  a “Taste of the Midland” small plates dish at their Trafford Suite, overlooking the site of the forthcoming statue of Emmeline Pankhurst.

Dr. Helen Pankhurst, international development and women’s rights activist, CARE International’s senior advisor for the UK & Ethiopia and great granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, will talk about women’s rights and development over the last 100 years.

The event will also include an in-depth panel discussion featuring a variety of speakers who have been successful in their professional capacity alongside women who have delivered successful community projects across Greater Manchester.

The panel will be chaired by Kathleen O’Connor who is a Marketing and Business Development Strategist through her company, KO Consulting. She’s based in Manchester and is an Ambassador for Forever Manchester.

Sandhya Sharma

Sandhya of Safety 4 Sisters is an amazing grassroots based women’s organisation that support vulnerable migrant women who cannot access safe accommodation or welfare support and who are experiencing gender-based violence.

Marilyn Comrie OBE

As a Director of the Blair Project Ltd since 2015, Marilyn has championed initiatives to make motorsport more inclusive, affordable and accessible. She is also working to close the gender gap in professional Motorsports by encouraging girl racers, in particular in innovative ways from the youngest of ages. The group were awarded £500 from Forever Manchester for branded clothes for the kids to help unite them as a team and raise awareness of the group locally. She is about to launch Formula Girl Ltd, a new sports brand for women, in an effort to demonstrate her financial commitment to this effort, offering to set aside 40% of her company’s profits to sponsor female sporting talent, teams in Motorsport and other extreme sports.

Professor Francesca Gains

Francesca Gains is a Professor of Public Policy and Head of Politics at the University of Manchester. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Policy, Local Government Studies and the International Review of Administrative Sciences. Francesca also has a long term research agenda examining gender & policy making in the UK core executive and local Government.

Alison Ross

Alison is Customer Experience and operations Director at Auto Trader. She is also Chair of Manchester Digital and Trustee of Home Manchester. She was voted Woman of the Year in 2017’s Women in IT Awards recognised for her work in driving diversity and encouraging women into the IT sector.

Amanda McAlister

Amanda is Managing Partner at McAlister Family Law the firm she established in 2017. Prior to establishing her own law firm Amanda was the National Head of Family Law at Slater and Gordon, lawyers, one of the United Kingdom’s largest law firms. Amanda’s focus in establishing her own firm is to ensure emphasis is placed on core values of loyalty, transparency, dynamism and inclusion.
