SEX & LOVE & ROCK & ROLL: An Evening with Tony Walsh

April 1, 2015

On 29th April we are hosting an evening with Tony Walsh at the Frog and Bucket on Oldham Street in Manchester.

The evening is kindly sponsored by our Corporate Partners,   Opus 4.

Our Poet in Residence Tony Walsh, aka Longfella, is one of the UK’s most renowned performance poets; a performer who can make you laugh, cry and feel passionate, proud and excited all at once! His ‘This is the Place’ and ‘Silver Sparks’ poems, written about Greater Manchester and Forever Manchester’s role within it, will make you want to get up off your seat and do something to make a difference to Greater Manchester.

As well as our Poet in Residence, Tony has been the official poet for Glastonbury Festival, Kendal Calling Festival, the Great Manchester Run and many more. A regular on television and radio, he has performed everywhere from the main stage of the Lowry theatre to the Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw, Poland. Tony was also commissioned to write the official tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson’s illustrious career at the unveiling of Sir Alex Ferguson Way. “Absolutely brilliant! Unbelievable!” said Sir Alex.

“Some poets can make you laugh, a few can make you cry but only a handful can do both.  By all accounts, Tony Walsh is one such poet, taking audiences on a rock ‘n’ rollercoaster ride from comedy to tragedy, from the deadly serious to the seriously deadly. Splitting your sides AND breaking your heart? Be warned: this guy should come with a health warning!”

Tony is as passionate about Manchester as we are at Forever Manchester. His performance of ‘Silver Sparks’, a poem written to celebrate Forever Manchester’s 25th Birthday at our celebration on 20th February had the audience crying, laughing, cheering and beaming with pride about where they’re from.

Tony has a unique ability to have an audience completely transfixed on his every word and so the event on 29th April is not to be missed.  For one night only, Tony will perform his epic all-things-Manchester poem “Raindance” as well as a selection of “greatest hits” from his acclaimed book “SEX & LOVE & ROCK&ROLL”. Support will come from Tony’s very special guest, the hilarious Manchester comedy poet, Marvin Cheeseman.

Tickets are selling fast. For your chance to attend this one-off evening please purchase tickets below. Tickets will be priced at £10 per person, with all proceeds coming to Forever Manchester.

Doors open at 5.30pm, the performances begin at 6 and we’ll be finished by 8. So grab your mates, your colleagues or even your Mum, come on down and have a laugh, a cry and a pint too while you’re at it – you’re in for a treat!
