We recently funded Denton Town FC’s community minibus service.

The service is used by various local groups for trips and competitions and funding from Forever Manchester has enabled the service to continue for another year paying for the general running of the minibus, including MOT, tax, insurance and other expenses associated with having a vehicle.

The bus can be driven by any driver with a valid driving license in the community between the ages of 25-70.

Denton Town’s bus has taken hundreds of members of local community groups on several outings in the last month alone, including; three local school trips, Denton Town FC’s local fixtures, local Scouts adventure weekends and a three-day trip to Devon, enabling the junior swimming club to compete in a competition they may not have been able to take part in without the bus.

Projects like this are vital in continuing the work of local community groups. This bus can benefit any group in the Denton area who cannot afford the upkeep of a bus all year round.

William Hustler, Child Protection Officer for Denton Youth FC said: “The logistics of getting children from A-B is made much simpler by putting them all on one bus, they are safe together and happier. We travel every other weekend across Tameside and Manchester in the Community minibus provided by Phil/Denton Town FC and the bus, although ten years old now, drives like new. It is kept clean and tidy and more importantly roadworthy.

The bus is a credit to Phil for his hard work to deliver a smashing service.”

This service is a great example of our Asset Based Community Development approach, where a community is sharing a valuable asset, helping other community groups and projects to save money.
