This is Your Captain Speaking…

August 11, 2015

This month, Captain Manchester talks about the excellent front cover of our fanzine thanks to Stan Chow…

On the front cover of this month’s edition Stan Chow has done a brilliant adaptation of me, which I, and everyone at FMHQ love – Gill the Director of Operations has even printed it off to stick up in her office!

It’s a great illustration of me stood in front of my favourite city. It also shows off Stan’s excellent skills, which are seen in the Manchester with Love prints he did as a collaboration with Dave Sedgwick of Studio DBD to raise money for Forever Manchester.

The prints are on sale at and the response to them has been amazing. So far the Hacienda and the Beetham Tower prints have sold out, but there are still nine more on offer.

The prints are a great way to commemorate an occasion, whether you know a graduate who lives in Fallowfield who’d like the print as a keepsake, someone getting married in the Town Hall who
can hang the print with pride to remember their great day, or even someone who just loves these spaces of Manchester, like Oxford Road Station, the Northern Quarter or The Arndale.

Stan and Dave put together 11 prints, and the other nine are going quickly too. The spaces remaining are: Oxford Road Station, Barton Arcade, Hulme Arch, Manchester Town Hall (ONLY 6 REMAINING), Fallowfield’s Toast Rack, Piccadilly Gardens, Mancunian Way, The Arndale and The Northern Quarter.

We’ve only got 25 prints of each space, so once they’re gone, they’re gone. There’s also a set of postcards which features each of the prints as well as a special 12th card, which pays homage to
Forever Manchester.

Prints are priced at £70 each, these are all signed by both artists and numbered, whilst the postcard sets are £12. Proceeds from the sale of the prints and the postcards will go directly to Forever
Manchester to reinvest into community projects and groups across Greater Manchester.

So don’t forget, head over to and have a nosey for yourself.

Massive thanks to Stan for designing this month’s front cover, it looks great.

The demand from illustrators and designers to design the front cover of our fanzine has been phenomenal. If you’d like to get involved, email for details and requirements.
