20 years of regeneration have changed the face of modern Manchester: implausably wealthy football clubs, the Trafford Centre, Salford Quays, Manchester International Airport, a redeveloped, modern city centre, academic excellence and a proven ability to stage world class events like the Commonwealth Games and the Manchester International Festival.

Yet many of our local neighbourhoods are amongst Engalnd's most deprived, marginalised through poverty, i'll health, isolation, abuse and sometimes just by being born on the wrong side of the fence.

Did you know that in Greater Manchester around 200,000 people live in disadvantaged circumstances!

But there are 1000's of people who epitomise that Mancunian spirit of change; people who spot things that are going wrong in their street and want to do something about it - running a boxing club in their spare time, showing people how to grow their own food on an allotment, taking young people off the streets and changing their lives.

And these local people need cash. - not for themselves, but for equipment and for hiring venues and for paying bills.

FOREVER MANCHESTER raises money locally and invests it in grants to support these local people who are making change and improving our communities FOREVER!

THE GREAT LEVER VOICE - GREAT LEVER - BOLTON
The Great Lever Voice is run by Val Johnson. Val has a full time job yet volunteers much of her own time inspiring, motivating and mobilizing young people who have become disconnected from Society.

Many enter the project with no aspirations or qualifications and often lack confidence and self belief. They leave with something positive, be it feeling confident and valued, or with new vocational skills leading them into employment or further education.

The impact on such young lives is enormous, breaking cycles of inactivity and disinterest and enabling true participation in civic society.

ABRAHAM MOSS WARRIORS FOOTBALL CLUB
CRUMPSALL - MANCHESTER
Abraham Moss Warriors Football Club is a multicultural club with 200 players aged from 5-17 years, from 26 different countries and is based in Cheetham Hill, (one of the 2% most deprived places in England!) The area has many problems with high levels of unemployment, crime, gang culture and drugs.

By participating in sport, the young players are taught to embrace diversity and breakdown racial barriers and to build social skills and responsibilities. The club’s motto is “All Different All Equal”.

It's not just about healthy living, providing diversionary activities and promoting community cohesion; this club means business too! They are FA Charter Standard and have won Charter Standard Club of the year on numerous occasions; 26 boys have had trials with professional clubs and two players have signed academy contracts.

All this happens as a result of one incredible person who simply believes in young people. June Kelly is the unsung hero and powerhouse behind this incredible group!

WELCOME CAFE & SOCIAL CLUB - STOCKPORT

Creating a Lively Social Life for Local Pensioners
John* used to be stuck at home for most of the time, spending a lot of time in isoltation, especially during the Winter months. Now he attends The Welcome Cafe each week and enjoys sessions of Tai Chi, Dancing and Singing.

Alan Rothwell, Ex Corrie Star and Group Chair explains: "We cater for the needs of older people who are often lonely and need somewhere to go just to meet other people."

DROYLSDEN AMATEUR BOXING CLUB - TAMESIDE

A Boxing Club for Local Lad's of All Ages
Thomas* is 13 years old and loves coming to the club which is open 3 times a week to lad's of all ages. The club teaches discipline and allows members like Thomas to direct their energy into somethying productibve, providing them with a focus and keeping them out of trouble.

Thomas explains "Coming to this club is a part of my life, it's my routine and if i didnt come here i'd be stuck at home bored or wondering the streets."

REPUBLIC OF SWING BATERIA - MANCHESTER

Producing Vibrant & Energetic Performances of Brazilian Samba Culture
Group Member James* was caught up in drugs before he got involved in this group, not only dealing, but also using Heroin! He had several near misses where he had been beaten to within an inch of his life by gangs and needed to get back on track.

James explained "If I wasnt part of the group I would be still doing heroin. Attending the group has provided me with consistency and positive socialisation that was not there in my old life."

URBAN RIDE - TRAFFORD

Horse Riding for Young People Regardless of Background
Joshua* had never really been into animals until he spent time at Urban Ride. His mum was amazed "He got so excited when he found out that he would get the chance to learn how to look after and ride a horse. Without this group we simply couldn't afford this experience for him."

Julie Birrane, The Group's Treasurer added: "Urban Ride keeps children off the streets and gets them out in the fresh air. It's great when you see their little faces light up, and you can see the enthusiasm - they just want to learn!"

COMPANY FIERCE DANCE ACADEMY - MANCHESTER

A Dance School for Local Young People
Sarah* finds school difficult, but she loves coming to Company Fierce to learn how to dance. Learning new moves is something young people like Sarah can get passionate about.

Darren Pritchard, Artistic Director, says: "The academy prevetns young people turning to a liofe of crime and gives them a better quality of life."

SPECIAL OLYMPICS - BURY

Providing Sporting Activities for People with Physical and Mental Disabilities
Lewis* loves attending thr sport sessions. He has been a regular at the club for the last 8 years. Being part of the club keeps him healthy, helps him socialise, and allows him to play sports that many other individuals with a disability don't get the opportunity to try.

Lewis says: "I've made loads of firends. It's great coming here as it gets me away from the parents! I'd be sad, i'd be sick, if I couldnt come any more. It's simply the best!"

MILNROW COBRAS ARLFC - ROCHDALE

A Mixed Age Rugby Club including a Girl's Team
7 year old Sam* has cerebral palsy and has been told he will never have full use of his legs. Despite his difficulties he plays regularly at the club, learning the sport and being part of a team.

Sam's Dad explaisn: "Even though it can hurt him, he gets on with it. Playing Rugby makes him a stronger person and really helps him to build up his confidence."
